Editor's Note on Aught, no. 11/12: Multi-part poems

AUGHT is a web-based journal, and it's the conventional wisdom of the Internet that readers have little patience, short or shorter attention spans even than half-hour sitcom viewers, and that the net favors instant gratification and drive-by content rather than thoughtful, lingering, reading.

Nonetheless serious and sincere innovative poets continue to wrestle meaning and experiential insight out of the long form — and feel strongly enough about it to submit it to web-based journals. Whether it seems a fool's errand or not, I've chosen to accept and present the best of the longer, multi-part works that came in to AUGHT's email box during the last six months. Some choose to (re)present with an accumulation of fragment, others by skirting conventional narrative vectors, still others through a systematic if fragmentary archeology of emotion and syntax. All of them impress.
