A Showing of Hands

i coalesce
    with ease
from breath
    to breathing

its sheen
    fixes krsna
to speech:     a
    man must

elevate himself
    by his
own mind,
    breath to

breathe and
    brotherhood.
benign then
    motive

bloods run
    thudding
thick & thin
    in the waters

collapsing
    loves
and
    dissonances

what we shall say
    is that,
under duress,
    they

cut through the
    cuticles
slipping the digit
    clean away

at the quick
    numbering
one to nine
    letting a thumb

lumber itself
    with uniqueness
and the massacre
    unencumbered
